Since 2017, the PNG-Australia Partnership Incentive Fund has supported a pilot project in Morobe to reduce communities' reliance on imported rice through the use of solar powered rice milling machinery.

"In partnership with the PNG National Agricultural Research Institute, more than 60 solar rice mills have been distributed to selected communities over the last 12 months," the Australian High Commission said.

This week, Australian High Commissioner Bruce Davis and Australian Consul-General in Lae Paul Murphy visited the Wampit community where the project is taking place.

"They were particularly pleased to see women are not just getting involved in production, but are increasing their capacity through maintenance and equipment repair training provided by Trukai Industries," the High Commission said.
