PHILIPPINE Airlines is seeking to service flights to Port Moresby due to an increasing number of passengers travelling between the two countries, according to The Philippines Star.

The airline has submitted an application to re-allocate additional entitlements from the unutilised seats entitlements assigned to budget airline Cebu Air, to the Civil Aeronautics Board.

The National reported last year that Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru welcomed expanded air links between the Philippines and Papua New Guinea and urged natives of the Philippines to invest in PNG, particularly in banking, education, coconut processing and small to medium enterprises.

"This will increase competition, reduce airfares and encourage more and more two-way business travellers and tourism flow between our two countries," he said.

"At present, Air Niugini has five flights to the Philippines which are full both during peak and non-peak periods."
