PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has been accorded a red carpet welcome, and a 21-gun salute, on his arrival in China at Beijing International Airport this week.

O'Neill's official visit to China, along with government and business delegations, is part of cementing the ongoing bilateral relationship between the countries, a spokesman for the government said.

He was met by Deputy Foreign Minister Zheng Zegauang and PNG's ambassador to China, Christopher Mero.

O'Neill was invited to visit China by Premier Li Keqiang "to mark 40 years of the strong bilateral ties that the two countries".

Topics to be discussed include trade, air services, fibre cable networks, road reconstruction and a free-trade agreement.
