With the gold price rising, not surprisingly, Antam wants to optimise its gold sales.

Antam marketing director Hari Widjajanto said gold sales made up 68% of the company's revenue during the first half of the year.

In other parts of its metals business, Antam has issued an engineering procurement and construction contract for the Haltim Ferronickel Plant Development Project Phase 1 Line 1 to a consortium of Kawasaki Heavy Industry and Wijaya Karya. The contract is worth 3.42 trillion rupiah ($US260 million).

The Haltim project aims to turn the company's nickel to more valuable ferronickel and will have a production capacity of 13,500t nickel.

It is hoped the plant will be commissioned in late 2018.
