GOLD miner Kingsgate Consolidated has moved to hose down Thai media reports relating to the “premature closure of the Chatree Gold Mine on December 31”.

In October Kingsgate's Thai controlled subsidiary Akara Resources submitted an application for a five-year renewal of the metallurgical licence for the Chatree mine.

The renewal application followed an announcement by the Thai government in May that it would only extend Akara's metallurgical licence until December 31.

In an announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Kingsgate said neither it nor Akara had received any communication from the Thai government relating to comments reportedly made by the Thai Minister of Industry relating to the premature closure of Chatree.

"The media reports themselves are contradictory in certain respects and the Thai press should not necessarily be regarded as a reliable source of information of this type," the company said.
