The Golden Gate graphite project is near Croydon in North Queensland and was systematically drilled as part of a gold exploration program in the 1980s.

Independent consultants N H Cole have now said the review highlighted the "excellent potential for the project to be developed".

The target is 80km south of Metallica Minerals' recent discovery at the Esmeralda graphite project and Crater says that Golden Gate is part of the same geological formation.

"Recent metallurgical testwork at Esmeralda demonstrated the ability to produce a high purity graphite concentrate," the company said.
