"The Dialogue brings together 20 prominent young leaders from business, civil society and government in both countries to share ideas and form enduring professional connections," Lowy Institute organisers said.
"This is the flagship event of the Australia-Papua New Guinea Network, designed to deepen understanding and ties between the two countries. This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with a group of passionate young leaders with shared interests in the future of their countries."
The reception will take place from 6pm to 9pm.
The 2016 Dialogue is hosted in partnership with the Gallery of Modern Art to coincide with the No. 1 Neighbour exhibition, showcasing work by artists from Papua New Guinea from the mid-1960s to today.
"The exhibition demonstrates the importance of the ongoing relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea with projects profiling creative relationships between communities and individuals. Following the formal proceedings, guests will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition," the organisers said.
