The MSG summit takes place from February 10 to 15, where PNG will chair the discussion group, previously chaired by the Solomon Islands.
MSG secretariat director general Amena Yauvoli visited Port Moresby earlier this month to meet Foreign Affairs Minister Rimbink Pato and other senior PNG government officials in preparation for February's summit.
The MSG said the emphasis of the event would on sustainable development goals, outlined in the ‘MSG 2038 Prosperity for all Plan'.
"The theme for the summit will therefore relate to peace and prosperity in the MSG. The PNG Government is undertaking necessary preparations to ensure the leaders' summit is a success," the MSG said.
Yauvoli also met with senior PNG police officials to discuss the proposed Police Commissioners Conference and Police Ministers' Meeting.
She said the Police Ministers' Meeting was being convened to consider implementation of mandates relating to security issues, in particular the MSG security assistance to PNG during the APEC meetings in November this year.
MSG member countries are PNG, FLNKS, Vanuatu, Fiji and Solomon Islands.
