NEW Ireland Day is being celebrated on July 27 and 28 with the theme ‘Ours ahead - yumi yet now' at Court House Oval, Kavieng. There will be triathlon, canoe racing, a choir completion, string band competition, Little Mr and Miss New Ireland, floats and stalls. The organisers say great prizes will be given away at the event which showcases New Ireland's cultural and traditional heritage. PAPUA New Guinean researcher Dr Thomas Webster will be the Press Club guest speaker at a dinner to take place at the Lamana Hotel at 7pm on July 24. Webster is team Leader of the National Research Institute's Bougainville Referendum Research Project and he will be focusing on the "key requirements for a well-run Referendum that can deliver a credible outcome, the results of which will be respected by all stakeholders leading to peace and stability for Bougainville and PNG as a whole".
