"For too long we have casually celebrated our nation's anniversary with minimum effort in making a statement of how proud we truly are of our people, our heritage, our freedom, our land, our country.
"We must put aside our provincial colours and display only red, black and gold because on September 16, 1975, we became one people, one country and one nation.
"For these reasons, as Governor of our capital city, I feel compelled in writing to every stakeholder in this beautiful city seeking your support and participation during Independence day celebrations," Parkop said.
The NCD has also asked business houses in Port Moresby to participate in a float parade, which will start on the morning of Saturday, September 15.
The Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry says that if companies wish to take part, contact organiser Kila Dick for more details: Email KilaD@r_1odc.gov.pg
