Port Vila gets 'Green City' award

VANUATU’S Port Vila city received a “Global Green City” from the United Nations, largely in recognition of the government’s ban on plastics, which came into effect in July this year.

The award was made at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok.
 
The award also acknowledged the other efforts of the government and Port Vila Municipal Council to improve infrastructure and ‘green' the city.
 
Port Vila Lord Mayor Albert Sandy Daniel was there to receive the trophy and a certificate and was joined by Foreign Affairs Minister Ralph Regenvanu and Internal Affairs Minister Andrew Napuat.
