Strange finding on Port Moresby

THE Economist Intelligence Unit has released a report on the “the most liveable” cities in the world, finding that Port Moresby rates 135th out of 140 countries examined.

The EIU report puts Port Moresby below Zimbabwe's capital Harare, a city where power only comes on at 10pm every day and is switched off at 5am.  Reticulated running water to business and households is a rarity in Harare, where most government services including telecommunications has collapsed.

Port Moresby has its moments with water and power supplies, but cannot be remotely compared to most of Africa's developing nations - or many within the Pacific for that case.

Austria's Vienna and Australia's Melbourne took the top spots in this odd research document.

Perhaps the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry should be in touch with the EIU to set the record straight.
