CHAMPION Papua New Guinea lifters Dika Toua and Morea Baru are set to compete at the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from September 2 to 17.

The event will also be a qualification event for the Paris Olympic Games, which take place in 2024.
 
Toua, the president of PNG Weightlifting, told The National newspaper that they were focused on the meet in Saudi Arabia and determined to qualify for the Olympics.
 
The two are also preparing for the Pacific Games in Honiara, which start on November 19.
 
Toua in 2013 was diagnosed with tuberculosis, but after a swift recovery, won gold in the Glasgow Olympics a year later.
 
In 2018, competing in her third games in the Gold Coast she placed second once again for her second Commonwealth games silver and third medal overall. She was 10kg behind the gold medallist after failing her last two lifts.
 
She finished in 5th place in the women's 49kg event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England.
