The number of cases recorded is now 30, with Manning say that the belief that PNG was immune to the virus was a false one.

At least 20 of the new infections have been recorded in Port Morseby.

He said that over just five days, 200 tests had been done and seven had returned positive results.

''These are alarming rates even against world standards,'' he said.

Manning said the capacity at the Rita Flynn Emergency Ward for isolation was 70, and at current rates, there would be more than 70 patients by the end of the month.
