THE economic costs of Covid-19 continue to mount, globally and in the Pacific. But what is the damage in the Pacific, and how are Pacific governments responding?
The Australian National University will be presenting a seminar today, August 19, from 12.30pm to 2pm, which will address the extent of this damage and examining responses Pacific governments are taking.
ANU's Professor Stephen Howes will present an overview based on the Pacific Covid Economic Database the Development Policy Centre has put together.
Dr Jenny Gordon, chief economist at Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will provide her assessment while Dr Neelesh Gounder (economics, University of the South Pacific) and Maholopa Laveil (economics, University of Papua New Guinea) will present perspectives on Fiji and PNG respectively.
The event will be chaired by Sadhana Sen, who is regional media adviser for ANU's Development Policy Centre.
