Pandemic controller David Manning says the arrival of AstraZeneca, Sinopharm - and soon Johnson and Johnson - vaccines have allowed the pandemic response team to make that transition to not only focus on the vaccination program but expedite the PNG government strategy to implement and return to the new normal or ‘niupela pasin'.

Manning said it was better to continue to implement containment strategies and bolster efforts with the available vaccines. He added that testing would continue at health clinics, NBC News reported.

Manning said that given the deadliness of the new variants of Covid-19, consideration was being given to postponing entry to PNG by international travellers.
