This was confirrmed by pandemic controller David Manning after a long period without official updates on Marape's condition. Marape was cleared to return to work on February 16.

In a statement on February 8, Marape said that he was in isolation and recovering well. The statement added that he would take another test on February 10, one week after initially testing positive.

Marape undertook to provide the nation with an update, if he was fit to resume duties. This did not happen until this weekend.

Government sources told the Post-Courier that Marape's isolation has impacted his schedule, as typical National Executive Council meetings have resulted in the Department of Prime Minister and NEC scrambling to arrange virtual means for him to interact with his ministers.

High on the government's agenda is the resumption of parliament on February 22 as MPs count down their final days in the current term of parliament.
