PAPUA New Guinea has been rated 120th out of 190 countries for 'ease of doing business' by the World Bank in its latest global report.

Overall, PNG improved its position marginally from last year by 0.4%.
 
Areas in which PNG improved included starting a business; dealing with construction permits; and trading across borders.
 
PNG regressed in the areas of paying taxes and resolving insolvency.
 
It remained the same in the context of getting electricity; registering property; getting credit; protecting minority investors; and enforcing contracts.
 
PNG made paying taxes less costly by abolishing the training levy and by issuing value added tax refunds more quickly, thanks to more streamlined audits.
 
PNG made trading across borders easier by implementing an automated customs data management system but at the same time it made trading across borders more expensive by increasing port fees.
