With the logistical support of Oil Search's supply chain and seismic project teams, the Hela Rural Development Foundation (HRDF) was able to deliver more than 100 boxes of library books from Brisbane to Fugwa in Hela during December.

Foundation leader Eric Yawas said the project aimed to help improve learning outcomes for children in the rural communities while commending his team for their efforts. He encouraged resource developers to continue such partnerships that would help improve education and health services for remote communities in the regions where they operate.

"I would like to thank Oil Search under the leadership of Dr Shane Schofield and Andrew Johnston for transporting every single one of these library books from Australia to remote Fugwa," Yawas said.

"They are invaluable learning tools for our children, who represent the future of our communities," Yawas said.

Oil Search says the books were donated to five schools and will benefit students from elementary through to the Grade Eight. Resource material for teachers was also included.
