$US1 billion penalty plan for LNG joint venture partners

A brief prepared for Petroleum and Energy Minister William Duma by his department has outlined possible plans for a $US1 billion (K2.69 billion) penalty fee on any developer of a major gas project should it be aborted.

Three separate and major liquefied natural gas projects are currently in planning, with Liquid Niugini Gas, PNG LNG and LNG Limited all keen to move into development.
