According to the Post-Courier, PNG National Disaster officers were shocked by the destruction caused in flood-ravaged areas of Western Highlands and Jiwaka provinces.

Provincial disaster officer Paias Kar reportedly said the assessed damage and impacts would cost more than 4 million kina for relief aid and to rebuild roads.

"Luckily nobody died but they are now at risk of starvation, contaminated drinking water and diseases," he reportedly said on Friday.

"People in the disaster camps are not living a normal life after the flood."
