Fate unknown for nine MPs

JUST nine of the 23 members of parliament facing questions over their election funding last week were reportedly referred to the Ombudsman Commission on Monday.

The National, which had previously referred to the 23 MPs as a "motley crew of senior ministers, governors and ordinary MPs", yesterday reported that 14 of them "quickly filled in necessary forms and paid in their dues".

Of the others who were part of the OC referral by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, officials have reportedly not disclosed their names.

Registrar Dr Alphonse Gelu reportedly revealed last week that a failure to account for election campaign finances amounted to misconduct in office, with MPs facing the risk of being dismissed.

Daily fines had racked up for the non-disclosure. The 23 MPs reportedly owed more than K500,000 to the government.
