Response stays nurses' stop work

THE PNG Nurses Association is putting its stop work protest on hold after getting a positive response from the Papua New Guinea Chief Secretary’s Office.

EMTV reports PNGNA acting national president Steven Nawik called the CSO response "progressive" but he could not understand why the PNG government had not budgeted for nurses' pay increases agreed to last year.

"We are aware of PNG's financial situation but we have an agreement so we are keeping an open mind about this," the TV station quotes him saying.

According to Nawik the CSO responded by saying a budget management committee had been assigned to discuss a way forward in addressing the PNGNA's log of claims.
