PRIME Minister James Marape has announced that the National Executive Council has approved the recall of parliament on April 2.

This is to comply with a constitutional requirement which stipulates that parliament must convene at a time before the expiry of the national emergency.
 
The 14-day state of emergency was declared on March 23. The special sitting of parliament will debate the declaration of a national emergency and consider whether it should be extended.
