City govemor Powes Parkop and city manager Leslie Alu announced the relief efforts of the Commission today with a strong appeal to the general public and business houses in the city to contribute to relieve the plight of the people of East Sepik.

"Our people in East Sepik need our help at this time of disaster and it is important that we take time to think of them and more importantly consider assisting with much needed relief assistance in cash or kind to alleviate the hardships faced by the people at this time," Parkop said.

Those wanting to assist in cash can also make direct deposits into the Kadovar Island Disaster Relief

As part of the relief appeal, two open back vehicles will be visiting the three electorates of the city to collect donations from city residents and business houses.

"City residents can donate clothing, cooking utensils, food and other donations they can make to help our brothers and sisters of Kadovar, Ruprup and Biem Islands."

NCDC did a similar appeal for the Hanuabada Fire relief last year and drew tremendous support from the Port Moresby public and the corporate sector.

East Sepik govemor Allan Bird confirmed that there was earthquake experienced around 3am on Monday.

The three islands are currently affected by the volcanic eruptions and the East Sepik Provincial government is working to assist with relief efforts.

For donations the public can also call Port Moresby East Sepik Relief Appeal Coordinator James Yalya on 730805229.
