REPRESENTATIVES of the Fred Hollows Foundation visited Port Moresby last week in which a presentation was made for a national eye health centre to be established at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
An institution which aims to restore sight to those suffering eye afflictions, the Fred Hollows Foundation now works in more than 25 countries and has restored sight to more than 2.5 million people worldwide.
National Department of Health and other interested stakeholders attended the event.
The Foundation and the NDOH steering committee are investigating the construction of a national eye health centre in the grounds of the Port Moresby General Hospital. The total cost is estimated to be more than $NZ41 million and funding is required from local partners.
The Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industries says that it will invite those involved in the project to address one of its Chamber Breakfasts soon.
