Telikom PNG has advised fixed-service customers that the slow internet speed May 7 was "caused by disturbances done to Kumul Submarine Cable" by the quake.

Because of this, PNG DataCo has shifted traffic back to the high capacity network (HCN) and 03B satellite which are experiencing congestion due to limited capacity.

"PNG DataCo's engineering team is working on getting it fixed. Meanwhile, the internet speed will remain slow until the issue is resolved and traffic is migrated back to Kumul Submarine Cable.

"Telikom PNG sincerely regrets the service downtime and we will keep you informed on any updates. For more information, contact our Help Desk at 34567839.
