PNG gets K788M in climate aid

PAPUA New Guinea will soon have access to about K788 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to help the country and its partners respond to climate change.

This follows the launch of the PNG and Green Climate Fund Country Programme in Port Moresby, which has been developed with support from the US government, NBC News reports.
 
The PNG and GCF Country Programme will manage the resources needed to build the country's resilience to climate change threats.
 
US deputy chief of mission Bernard Link said US government was pleased to support Pacific Island countries to become more environmentally and disaster-resilient to protect the livelihoods of people.
 
So far, USAID has supported Pacific Island partners to access more than $202 million in adaptation finance.
