AS most of the country went out to vote last week, a joint venture to rehabilitate roads in East and West Sepik provinces was launched.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the EU-UN Streit program began to engage workers start the work in the provinces.
Three local contractors were engaged to maintain 52.1 km of roads in various parts of the Sepik region.
Hiawani has been contracted to upgrade 7.8km stretch of road from Banak to Wautogik in Wewak District; Midway Pacific will work on 12.8km Balif to Araseli Road in Maprik district; Kaystar Construction will work on two roads, 6.5km Munji to Haripmo road in Yangoru Saussia district in East Sepik and 25km Pasi to Krisa Road in Vanimo Green district in West Sepik province.
Work starts on July 15 and the contractors have 12 months to complete the projects, which are used by vanilla and cocoa farmers as well as fishery projects supported by the EU.
Streit program coordinator Dr Xuebing Sun said he was pleased to launch the program which was a milestone achievement for the road transport infrastructure.
"These roads will give access to thousands of people to transport their produce to the market," Xuebing said.
