Gold equities lose gloss

THE Metals and Mining index recorded a gain of 0.74% yesterday and despite the terror attack in London the gold price did little as it traded below $1250 per ounce.

The associated gold equities sector fell 0.39%, taking some of the gloss off Thursday's gain.
 
Oil was slightly down, with WTI crude at $47.70 and Brent crude at $50.51.
 
In softer commodities, cocoa increased $11 per tonne or 0.51% to $2176/t yesterday from $2165/t in the previous trading session, tradingeconomics.com reported. Historically, cocoa reached an all-time high of $4361.58/t in July of 1977 and a record low of $211/t in July of 1965.
 
Coffee decreased 0.95c per pound or 0.67% to 140.75c/lb yesterday from 141.70c/lb in the previous trading session, tradingeconomics.com reported. Historically, coffee reached an all-time high of 339.86c/lb in April of 1977 and a record low of 42.50c/lb in October of 2001.
