Triwibowo is an environmental manager who works for one of Indonesia's major coal producers, PT Adaro.
His presentation will discuss the final void plan of Paringin pit, in south Kalimantan, for ensuring environmentally and socio-economically sound future pit lake.
Currently there is a pit lake with an area of 21ha in Paringin, which is the result of an earlier mining operation. The water quality monitoring has been conducted regularly and this data will be used for evaluation and prediction of outcomes for another pit lake to be created in the future.
In 2021, there will be one big final void created at Paringin with total volume estimated 320 million cubic metres of fresh water.
"With the annual rainfall at the site of 3000 to 4000mm a year, it will be challenging for PT Adaro to ensure the mine's void remains geotechnically and geochemically stable and safe. At the end, when the void filled up with water, it should be environmentally and socially functional as fresh water storage," is the contention of Triwibowo's work on the subject.
The conference's theme is ‘Indonesia, the US and Australia: sustainability for the land and its people' and will be held at 113 Bridge Street in Muswellbrook on March 29, 30 and 31.
