GULF Manganese has said that the refurbishment of its two smelting furnaces was continuing in South Africa and were expected to be shipped to Kupang in Indonesia in the fourth quarter of this year.

Gulf and its partners are involved in the construction phase of developing the Kupang Smelting Hub Facility in the Bolok industrial area in West Timor.
"Dismantling of the equipment at Transalloy's site [at Emalahleni in South Africa's Mpumalanga Province] is near completion, with the furnace shells and slipping devices currently being removed with a target completion date of August 31," Gulf said.
Gulf's strategy is to develop an ASEAN-focused manganese alloy business at Kupang, which would take advantage of low operation and ore costs, combined with modest power costs.
