THE closure of the Porgera gold mine in Enga Province has deepened, with Prime Minister James Marape and Barrick Niugini trading stinging commentary on why the mine is on care and maintenance.
Marape made some extraordinary remarks on his Facebook page, stung by criticism that he is directly responsible for more than 2600 job losses and millions of kina in revenue lost as a result of his inaction on striking a deal with Barrick Niugini to get the mine going again.
