Wera Mori says it has not been decided if tailings from the $5 billion Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project will be disposed via the deep sea tailing placement (DSTP) method.

Construction of a tailings dam is not part of the mine plan proposed by Newcrest Mining.

"We have not decided yet. As minister, I have to be satisfied that the operation will be safe."

The Post Courier newspaper reports that Mori and officers from the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) visited coastal villages in the Huon Gulf District in a series of consultation meetings with villagers.
