He replaces Musje Werror, who controversially left Ok Tedi in December 2022.
Ilimbit previously worked at Ok Tedi from 1995 to 2004, starting as a graduate mechanical engineer and subsequently worked in various roles.
An Ok Tedi media announcement says Ilimbit has worked in senior and managerial roles at several operations in Australia including Blackwater, Peak Downs, Saraji, Prominent Hill, Cannington and Koolyanobbing.
Upon his return to Ok Tedi in 2015 and has worked in mine maintenance, process, asset management, operations, community support and as acting CEO.
Werror was appointed Ok Tedi MD in June 2020, following the departure of long-serving Peter Graham. He resigned in December 2022 and the company gave no reason for his departure.
Werror was with the company for more than 30 years with Ok Tedi, joining via the company's Graduate Development Scheme.
