BARRICK Gold Corporation has announced the suspension of its troubled $US8.5 billion ($A9 billion) Pascua-Lama gold project on the Chile-Argentina border and has launched a $3 billion capital raising in a further attempt to lower debt.
The temporary suspension will save $1 billion in capital expenditure next year.
Only activities required for environmental protection and regulatory compliance will continue.
