Ports and mines brace for cyclone

SEVERAL ports in north Queensland have been closed and others are on alert as severe Tropical Cyclone Ita bears down on the coast.

Ports North declared a red alert early this morning for the Cape Flattery and Cooktown ports, which have now closed.
