Oil Search MD Peter Botten and Marie Stopes country director Malmee Weerasiri signed the agreement during a at a meeting of the authority's board recently.
"With funding from Oil Search Foundation this partnership now allows MSPNG to work with the authority at its Hela Hospital and other health facilities in the province to provide safe options for family planning. It will enable husbands and wives and women to make family planning choices that will lead to their own empowerment, increase economic benefits for their families, improve child security and reduce maternal and infant deaths," the foundation said.
Weerasiri said the agreement would also enable Marie Stopes to provide access to a range of family planning methods and contraceptives, including the long -cting reversible contraception to women seeking sexual and reproductive health services throughout Hela.
"The services we provide are about giving people a choice concerning their own development in their families and communities. This partnership creates further opportunities to empower more people, especially women and girls," she said.
Botten welcomed the partnership on behalf of the board and senior management team.
"Sexual and reproductive health - including family planning education is important because women make up half of the population and are active contributors to development in any society. The more we provide our women and men with reproductive health knowledge, the more chances we have of helping create better communities," Botten said.
Under the agreement, Marie Stopes will work from the Hela Provincial Hospital and other health facilities in the province to roll out monthly family planning outreach services to the districts and a wide range of other family services.
