DRILLING at InterOils Elk-1 well has reached a depth of 1696m and the company has drilled through the temporary safety plugs that had held back the high-pressure gas, therefore securing the well.

InterOil said that following the arrival last month of specialist drilling equipment, the well was now pressure-controlled.
