"Things took a scary turn" when an armed gang held him captive in PNG during filming for the third series of Ross Kemp: Extreme World, according to entertainment news outlet BANG Showbiz.

"In Papua New Guinea, Ross is held-up at gunpoint, but instead of submitting to his hijackers he manages to turn the situation around and interview his potential captors in an extraordinary exchange, which reveals why this ex-British colony is now one of the most violent countries on the planet," UK TV channel Sky 1 said of the encounter.

"We remain dedicated to giving a voice to those caught up in some of the most extreme situations throughout the world," Kemp said of the series, which is expected to air in the UK early next year.

More details, such as where in PNG Kemp was during the hold-up, have not been revealed.
