Its assay result from the top 430m of a hole drilled to 632m was based on a 0.2% copper cut-off.

From the data released, the copper grades throughout the hole are consistent and generally in the range of 0.52% to 0.89% copper.

Highlands managing director John Gooding said the results justified the huge effort at the project over the past two years.

"We expect to receive the assays for the final 200m of the hole in the near future," he said.

"It is important to realise that we still have another 16 or more targets to drill yet on the licences but there is no doubt that this is a new copper gold porphyry province close to the established infrastructure of the Ok Tedi mine."

The project, comprising two exploration licences, is located about 25km north of the major Ok Tedi mine.
