Operations at the Simberi gold mine in PNG's New Ireland province are temporarily suspended while an investigation into the incident is underway.

In a statement this morning, St Barbara said the incident occurred on September 8 and involved the rope conveyor used to transport ore to the processing plant.

St Barbara expressed its sincerest condolences to the family and colleagues of the contractor.

Allied Gold shares will be officially removed from the ASX at the close of trading today.

St Barbara shares are up 2.8% to $1.717 by early afternoon (AEST). The miner also presented at the Denver Gold Forum today.
