INDOCHINE Mining has clocked up a best result of 10m at 6.3 grams per tonne gold in the first assay results at its Mt Kare project in Papua New Guinea for this year.

This intersection was struck just 20m down the hole, which included a 5m interval at 10gpt gold.

A separate hole yielded 9m at 4.2gpt gold from a 92m depth, which included 3m at 9.9gpt gold.

While those results are part of the last crop of holes drilled in 2012, Indochine will start drilling holes in identified bonanza zones next week.

"Initial drill results from these bonanza zones are expected from late January onwards," Indochine said.

Located 15km southwest of Barrick Gold's significant Porgera mine in Enga province, Indochine aims to lodge a mining licence application with the PNG government by late 2013.
