Wildcat well strikes unexpected volcanics

KINA Petroleum’s wildcat Raintree-1, the first well to be drilled in northern Papua New Guinea for two decades, has hit an unexpected snag.

The well was targeting an interpreted carbonate reef structure with a reservoir at the edge of the underexplored Ramu Basin; however, with drilling at 1088m, the well passed into a volcanic lithology
