The far-reaching plan would see test cricket nations in two divisions. The world's seven leading nations would sit in division one, with the three lowest ranked in a second division, joined by the two top teams from the Intercontinental Cup, which has always been the ‘feeder' for international test cricket.
Currently those two teams are Ireland and the Netherlands after Ireland's win against PNG in February, however PNG is in with a chance depending on the remaining four matches this season.
The Chief Executive of Cricket PNG, Greg Campbell, who also sits as the associate nations' representative on the ICC Chief Executives' Committee, says he sees this as a ‘real shake up for the competition'.
