Incentives to stop crime in NCD Perou N'Dranou
National Capital District's metropolitan chief superintendent Perou N'Dranou said officers would soon receive financial incentives to meet monthly arrest targets in Port Moresby, Radio New Zealand International reported.
N'Dranou said petty criminals in the NCD were often released, without appearing in court, only to reoffend.
N'Dranou said the new scheme would reward officers for achieving set monthly arrest numbers and gives them the discretion to target the worst repeat offenders.
He said incentives will be paid to individual officers every month, from K200 to K500 - depending on the police unit.
N'Dranou said the scheme will be rolled out as soon as systems are in place.
